Mr.U.K.Ananthapadmanabhan took his Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics branch from College of Engineering, Guindy, Chennai (BE), Madras university and a 3year Post graduate diploma in business management at Loyola Institute of Business Administration, Chennai. He also holds Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital Management (PGDHM).
He started his career in 1978 as a 'Graduate Engineer trainee' at M/s Lucas-TVS, Chennai. He also worked at M/s.TVS-Suzuki, Hosur and M/s.Rane(Madras) Ltd, Chennai. He worked in Automobile Industry for 5 years. In the year 1983 he switched over to hospital industry and joined 300-bed corporate hospital namely Apollo hospitals, Chennai as Materials Manager and later in 1987 he was elevated as General manager-technical. In the year 1990, he joined 350-bedded Kovai Medical Center and Hospital as 'President'. For a brief period he was also the Administrative director of 500-bed Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Center, Madurai.
He had hospital management training at Cleveland clinic, Texas heart center and St. Lukes hospital, USA. He also has widely travelled abroad. He has visited many manufacturing facilities and exhibitions of medical equipment suppliers in countries such as Netherlands, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Japan, Singapore and China to study their manufacturing facilities and management practices.
He is a member of the Advisory Board of Indian Institute of Health Management Research for Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Health management, Jaipur. He is a Member of Board of studies at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore and Sri Ramachandra Medical College for the Post Graduate programme in Hospital management. Member of the Board of Studies in NGP Arts and Science College, Coimbatore. He has published 30 papers in General management and hospital management.
He is presently the Vice President of the Federation of Hospital Administrators of India, Vice President of Coimbatore Management Association and chairman, Healthcare sub-committee CII (Southern Region).
